Saudi doctors conduct free surgery in Kano

A reception for Saudi doctors in Kano

More than 60 patients have received free urinary tract surgery in Kano state.

Director General, Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Usman Bashir said the surgery was conducted by Saudi Arabian charity organization, International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) in collaboration with the state government.

Usman Bashir stated that the male and female patients were suffering from various ailments affecting the urinary tract such as cancer, birth defects and enlargement of the prostate.

A team of 10 urologists from IIRO Saudi Arabia and some Kano based urologists conducted the surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre between December 21-28, 2018, he stated.

Kabir Ibrahim Getso, a medical doctor and Kano state commissioner of health explained that the IIRO supplied expertise, equipment and consumables worth about N20 million while the state government provided accommodation, feeding, transportation and other logistics to the visiting doctors.

Most of the patients have been discharged while some are receiving medication at the centre, according to the commissioner.

Some of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Saidu Ibrahim with five years urinary problems and Bilkisu Umar who suffered from kidney stones thanked the IIRO and Kano state government for treating them free of charge.

In appreciation, Kano state government has organized a dinner for the IIRO team.

Speaking at the event, Kano deputy governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna thanked the team for supporting healthcare delivery in the state.

In his response, IIRO team leader, Jamal Al Barry expressed satisfaction with the logistics provided by Kano state government and assured that the relationship would be solidified.

Also speaking, IIRO regional officer, Abdallah bn Salem Al-Howairini said the organization is willing to continue collaborating with Kano state government in providing healthcare services.
