The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it will hold tenants responsible for the payment of outstanding bills accumulated by previous occupants of the buildings they are renting.
Ibrahim Sani Shawai, Head, Corporate Communications of KEDCO stated this in an interview with KANO TODAY on Wednesday.
Mr Shawai therefore urged prospective tenants to make sure that outstanding electricity bills have been paid before renting a building.
He added that KEDCO has to hold present occupiers responsible as the company has no means of tracing the previous occupants.
In an earlier statement issued on Tuesday, Mr Shawai said many tenants vacate their premises without clearing the outstanding Electricity bills to KEDCO.
“This is a case of ‘debt evasion’. This is not a good development for any organization with a huge financial demand to both staff and other power distribution stakeholders within franchise areas and beyond.”
