The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Kano state 2019 gubernatorial election, Abba Kabir Yusuf has distanced the Rabiu Musa Kwakwaso administration from the cracks developed by the diversion road at the Gadon Kaya Underpass.

KANO TODAY had reported that the road was closed on Sunday after it developed cracks following heavy rainfall.

Mr. Yusuf, in a press statement released by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said the Kwankwaso administration completed the Underpass construction while   the accompanying diversion roads were executed by the Ganduje administration.

“Kano residents were eye witnesses when Ganduje’s administration coordinated the construction of the already cracked upstream diversion roads of the Prince Abubakar Audu Underpass at BUK Road by Gadon Kaya between 2016 and 2017.” Mr. Yusuf stated.

“For the avoidance of doubts, professionals in the construction industry knew that the sub project was handled improperly and with intention of manipulating space and budget to create corner shops for commercial purposes around the area, which is against the engineering standards for construction of mega projects of such nature.” He added.

Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was the commissioner for Works during the Kwankwaso administration also denied that the construction of  the Prince Abubakar Audu Underpass costs N700m even though he did not state an alternative amount.

He however urged the media, civil society and the state assembly to inquire at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport as part of their responsibility on investigative journalism, budget tracking and oversight function respectively.

Ganduje to take note

Mr Yusuf added that the Ganduje administration should bury its head in shame for many failures associated with projects it executed within the span of its time, such as the structructural defects of Kofar Ruwa Underpass, Sharada/Panshekara Underpass and Gadon Kaya diversion roads.

He also expressed hope that the Dangi/Gyadi-Gyadi Underpass would not have the same fate in order to avert massive loss of lives and properties of innocent motorists and citizens.
