The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has denied receiving payment from pilgrims for Hadaya (animal sacrifice) during the 2019 Hajj.
Executive secretary of the board, Muhammad Abba Danbatta told reporters in Madinah, Saudi Arabia that they have not collected a single Kobo from any pilgrim for the purpose of Hadaya.
Kano today reports that Mr Danbatta was reacting to a civil society organization, Independent Hajj Reports, which stated that the Board has refused to disclose details about the payment of Hadaya by Kano pilgrims.
Mr Danbatta said Jaiz Bank is the only institution certified by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Saudi authorities to collect the Hadaya.
“So for anybody to ask us to provide information in respect of what we don’t do or have control on, is not fair.” Mr Danbatta said.
