A civil society activist Muhammad Kabir Adamu Rano, has lamented how officials of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano state command, are operating on state roads instead of federal roads.

Muhammad Kabir Adam who is the Public Relations Officer Kano Civil Society Forum noted with dismay that the road safety officers are taking over the activities of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA).

He therefore urged Kano state government to introduce a law to limit the operations of FRSC officers to the highways and stay clear of state roads to avoid operating within the jurisdiction of KAROTA.

Recently, Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode had asked FRSC officers to stay off the state’s roads.

In a reaction, the FRSC said its men and officers will remain on federal and state roads to carry out their operations.

Kabiru Daura, Public Relations Officer FRSC Kano command told KANO TODAY that there is no law restricting the operations of the corps to federal highways.

He however acknowledged that there is a policy meant to strengthen the capacity of state traffic agencies, which encourages corps officials to concentrate on federal roads.

Aliyu Muhammad Ahmad, a Kano based lawyer has disputed the FRSC’s position insisting that its work is restricted to federal highways only.
