Kano state fire service commission has identified the cause of the fire outbreak that occurred at Darki market in Wudil local government area.
Director Kano state fire service commission Sagir Madaki told journalists on Tuesday that burning firewood left by food vendors caused the fire outbreak.
KANO TODAY recalls that on Saturday the Darki Market in Wudil local government was razed by fire, as 19 built shops and 272 temporary shops were burnt, without loss of lives.
Sagir Madaki urged trades most especially in major markets in Kano to stop using firewood and to make sure they switch off all the electrical appliances before closing their shops.
He also urged Kano residents to make sure they possess fire extinguishers in their respective houses, most especially during the harmattan season, to safeguard themselves against fire outbreak.
“If every house in Kano possesses fire extinguishers, they would curtail 60 percent of the damage caused by fire outbreak,” he said.
