Not less than seven members of Kano Vigilante Group have been murdered in the line of duty in 2018.
Muhammad Kabir Alhaji, state commandant of the organization disclosed this in an exclusive interview with KANO TODAY.
He said two members were killed in each of Tsanyawa and Gabasawa local governments while bandits in Kabo, Nassarawa, and Rano killed one member each.
“In Tsanyawa, thugs set three vigilante members ablaze in a closed room. Two of them died while the third is currently receiving treatment,” he said.
“Two members were killed by armed robbers in Gabasawa when they engaged them in physical combat,” he added.
“Also, a member called Iliyasu was stabbed to death in Nassarawa in an attempt to arrest some criminals.”
Muhammad Kabir Alhaji explained that another member lost his life in Rano in a clash with armed robbers where the vigilante succeeded in killing three armed robbers.
The state commandant however denied reports that members of the group also kill innocent civilians.
He said the vigilante group helps law-abiding citizens by protecting them from criminals who are threatening the peace.
